I draw musicians and their instruments as they create live music at gigs, open mics and rehearsals. The melodies, rhythms and lyrics move me to capture the moment through the dancing motion of my hand. Through my sketches, I want you to feel part of the precious and energy-filled moment when a song is shared.

About My Process
I draw in sketchbooks with pen and coloured markers, or digitally on an Ipad. I move along to the music to capture the likeness of the musicians, their instruments and the musical moments they create.
The sound influences my movements and marks, like a dance. Faster, high energy songs can create more wild, scribbly, loose lines and I love to transcribe melodies and instrumental solos through undulating and twisting lines over portraits.
I sketch quickly because I only create whilst the musicians are playing music and often complete a sketch in the length of one song. My pen stops when the musicians stop playing.
At jam sessions or open mics I sometimes create busier pieces where I capture the overall energy of the event, combining different songs and musicians into one composition.

Do you do commissions?
People have started to ask me this and I’m opening up to the idea of doing very limited commissions in exchange for contributions to my art fund. I’d love to create art for musicians and bands who connect with my style of musical illustration. I draw in response to live music to capture its energy and movement through lines, marks and colour.
If you’re looking for photographic realism or a design that goes through endless rounds of revisions, I’m probably not the artist for you. But if you want a creative human being to come along to a gig or event, listen to your music and make art in response to your art, then please get in touch 🙂
I’m based near Exeter in Devon, UK. Commissioned pieces could exist as original artworks or be digitised for use as artwork for your album, EP or single, merchandise, posters and other promotional materials. If you have something in mind, contact me here and tell me a little about your music and what you’re interested in creating together.
